とある秋晴れの日曜日、ふと思いついてビーチに行ってみることにしました。ビーチの名前はSanta Cruz、北カリフォルニアでは避暑地として結構有名なところです。僕の家からは、30分ぐらい南に降りる感じで、森の中のワインディング・ロードを抜けていくと、ふっと視界が広がって、そこはもう海、太平洋。
ビーチと言っても、Santa Cruzというでっかいビーチがあるわけではなく、小さいいろいろなビーチがたくさん集まって、全体でSanta Cruzなんだそうです。特にあてのあるドライブじゃないので、とにかく適当に走っていって気に入った通りを降りたら、もうそこはビーチ。
9月ともなれば、ちょっと日陰にでも入れば結構肌寒いのですが、ビーチで海風に吹かれていると、かなり寒い感じ。とてもじゃないけど、こりゃ泳ぐには遅すぎたか。そんなこんなでビーチを散歩。子どもが遊んでいるね。無邪気なもんだ。んー、鈴木、ちょっとひたっています。
おっ？あれは何だ？ いや、見てない、見てない、何も見ない。あっちに行こっと。
いやー、風が気持ちいいぜ。とにかく奴から遠ざかろう。ベンチに座って、さてちょっと焼くか。脱ぐとやっぱり寒いね。そういえば、俺がねっころがっていると、マグロかあざらしと言われたことがあったっけ。...奴もやっぱり寒さにやられたのかね。...だめだ、やっぱ寒い。日焼けは中止。
本でも読みましょう。池波正太郎。剣客商売。ちょっと、雰囲気と違うけど、まあ、いいか。でも、いろんな奴がうろうろしていて、結構見てるだけでもおもしろいね。ひまを持て余したような幸せなんだかわかんないような老後を過ごしているようなばばぁとか、入れ墨入れた兄ちゃんがスケボーで目の前通り過ぎていったり、何かしらんが無理矢理泳いでさむそーなおやじとか。
おー、子どもがいっぱい来たねぇ。これは近所の集まりか何かかな。大変だね、子どものお守りも。ばらばらばらばら動きゃーがって。...あー...ダメ、そっち行っちゃ。奴がいるって。...あー、...突っつくなって。
今日は帰ろ。
